I always say — locking in a gain over 50% is never the wrong move. But that doesn’t mean you have to exit. Today I’m reviewing two trades that have crossed that threshold: Amazon ($AMZN) and AMD ($AMD). I’ll break down the trades, walk through the charts, and explain exactly what I’m doing — and what other traders might consider too.
💸 $AMZN – Aug 15th 205/220 Bull Put Credit Spread
Max Profit: $1,050
Current Open P/L: $575 (📈 54.76%)
🔍 Chart Breakdown:
Price: $231.97
Candlesticks: Smooth, steady climb with today printing a tight-bodied green candle near the high — a controlled advance but showing signs of pause.
10-day SMA: $226.73 (price is well above it)
50-day SMA: $214.97
200-day SMA: $208.25
RSI: 68 — not quite overbought, but close.
MACD: Still bullish, but flattening — momentum is fading slightly.
Stochastics: 86 — extended and drifting sideways.
📌 My Take:
This setup still looks healthy, and I’m letting it run for now. The trend remains intact, and the price is respecting support. That said, if you’re more conservative or just want to book the win — that’s completely valid. It’s already done most of the job. Either choice is the right one depending on your risk tolerance.
💸 $AMD – Aug 15th 125/135 Bull Put Credit Spread
Max Profit: $1,110
Current Open P/L: $958.50 (📈 86.35%)
🔍 Chart Breakdown:
Price: $162.57
Candlesticks: Today shows strong continuation off the recent pause — bulls still in control.
10-day SMA: $155.87
50-day SMA: $130.68
200-day SMA: $123.37
RSI: 74 — overbought territory.
MACD: Still bullish but plateauing.
Stochastics: 83 — elevated and curling sideways.
📌 My Take:
I’m closing this one. I’ve captured over 86% of the max reward, and while the chart still looks good, the risk-reward from here just isn’t worth it. Happy to lock this one in.
✅ Final Thoughts:
Every trader’s tolerance is different — I’m staying in $AMZN for now, but if you wanted to take the win, I wouldn’t blame you. $AMD, on the other hand, has done its job and then some — and I’m closing it out with a solid gain.
