đ MCD â Breakout or Fakeout?
đĄDaily Trade Idea âMonday, Aug. 11, 2025 â $MCD Trade Setup and Technical Breakdown
Hey traders and investors, today Iâm looking at McDonaldâs ($MCD). This oneâs been quietly working its way higher after a nasty drop earlier in the summer, and now itâs right in that zone where we find out if the breakoutâs real or if itâs about to fizzle. Iâm gonna walk you through what Iâm seeing, how Iâd trade it short-term, what Iâd do if I were building a longer-term position, and the options trade Iâm personally running with.
Whatâs Been Going On
After a rough stretch from June into mid-July, MCD found its footing just under $280 and started grinding back up. Earnings late last month gave it some juice, finally pushing it over the 200-day SMA for the first time in months. Since then, itâs been holding above that level, with a few tests of support along the way.
Sentimentâs leaning bullish right now â the streetâs still buying into the brandâs pricing power and consistent traffic, even with all the chatter about inflation and consumer spending. The technicals are lining up for a continued move if it can hold above the breakout area.
What the Chartâs Telling Me
Price & Candles:
Current price is $305.52 â holding just above the 10-day SMA ($303.88) and the 200-day SMA ($301.06), with the 50-day SMA down at $299.26. Price actionâs been pretty constructive: higher highs, higher lows, and holding above key moving averages after the earnings gap.
Moving Averages:
10-day â short-term support, keeping the uptrend intact.
50-day â still below price, trending higher â supportive.
200-day â now acting as a safety net after being cleared late last month.
Patterns:
Not a textbook pattern, but you can make the case for a breakout-and-retest setup here. Price broke through $301â$302 resistance, came back to check it, and so far, itâs holding.
Indicators
RSI: 56 â mid-range, plenty of room to run before overbought.
MACD: Positive and still climbing â momentumâs in the bullsâ corner.
Stochastics: 74 â starting to creep into higher territory, but not screaming overbought yet.
